Michael Matthews is CEO of Canberra Convention Bureau and has worked in the Australian and international meetings and tourism industry for over 30 years in Australia, UK and Canada. Michael has led destinations since 2012 and held senior management positions in multinational hotel companies in sales and marketing, operations and food and beverage.

Michael is excited to provide stewardship as a foundational Director of the Australian Business Events Association (ABEA) and is the former President of the Association of Australian Convention Bureaux (AACB) and Director of Business Events Council of Australia (BECA) and maintains a board position on the Canberra Regional Tourism Leadership Forum (CRTLF) and is a former executive of Destination Marketing Association of Canada (DMAC).

Michael has a Master of Business Administration (Tourism) and Advanced Diploma in Tourism Hospitality. He is active in the cricket community as a junior club President and girls’ soccer coach. Long distance endurance running is still a passion when time permits.

He is passionate about growing global recognition of Australia’s Capital.
